Urban development Am Heidjöchl, 1220 Vienna
"The park that reaches every home" is the name of the project by the Barcelona-based architectural team Paloma Mosto Zavala and Samuel Llovet Montardit, who emerged as the winners of an international competition. The project impressed with its well-thought-out building structure and optimal lighting and climate conditions.
In urban planning, green spaces and open spaces are usually understood as the areas that remain between buildings. They are the result of development, not its starting point. Landscape emerges as a remnant, as a counterbalance or complement to the built environment. This project deliberately reverses this logic. The starting point is a coherent landscape structure that permeates and organizes the area. Green spaces and open spaces do not form an additive system, but rather the primary spatial framework of urban development.
Since there are many local conditions to consider in urban planning, a call for tenders was issued for the creation of an urban development model and quality manual. This is where M&S Architects came into play. The experience we have already successfully incorporated into the design of the Wildgarten development area is also valued in this context.
Together with our team consisting of LAND.IN.SICHT (landscape architecture), Rosinak & Partner (traffic planning), and Novaplan (infrastructure), we are working with the Spanish competition winners to develop an interdisciplinary, holistic vision for the sustainable and future-oriented design of this new urban area.
The ongoing involvement of the population is particularly important in this process.
